Connection is a dance work performed by two biological siblings. While audiences may initially expect a narrative centered on the bond between sisters, choreographer YANG Jim-Min seeks to move beyond autobiographical storytelling toward a broader artistic inquiry into human relationships and emotional resonance.

Drawing inspiration from early 20th-century Expressionism, the work departs from the idea that art must be beautiful or refined. Instead, it embraces raw emotion and the complexity of lived experience. As Pina Bausch once said, “I’m not interested in how people move, but what moves them,” a perspective that resonates deeply with Yang’s choreographic approach.

In this performance, the dancers engage in actions such as chasing, pulling, controlling, falling, gazing, hesitation, surrender, violence, and wandering, as well as moments of mirrored and symmetrical interaction. These physical exchanges reveal shifting dynamics between closeness and distance, dependence and resistance.

Connection explores multiple dimensions of relationality: the siblings’ shared physical awareness and instinctive synchronization; their unspoken emotional understanding; the relationship between performers and audience; and the broader dialogue between the work and the aesthetics of Expressionism and Surrealism.
