Quand Le Corps S’exprime

“I believe that the body can inherently possess beauty and narrative without the need to specifically shape dance meanings
or create content akin to a script. Therefore, this time, I want to engage in pure physical dance aesthetic. For me, dance is a
connection of movements, a dynamic of the body which forms shapes. As our limbs turn and twist, everything happens naturally, much like the body language on stage.”

– Hsieh Yi Chun, Choreographer

Quand Le Corpse S’exprime has been a representative piece of Chun Dance during our tour in Festival Off Avignon in 2024.
Embracing the philosophy, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” Yi Chun forgoes storytelling and political-social issues in her work. Instead, she focuses on building a unique dance vocabulary in collaboration with her dancers.

The dancers’ diverse backgrounds and training vividly reveal their individual characteristics and physical qualities. Their low-centered,
fluid, and circular movements evoke the essence of water, seamlessly expressing emotion. While the choreography does not explicitly
reference any specific artwork, audiences frequently note imagery reminiscent of Henri Matisse’s paintings. This connection suggests
that, like evolution, aesthetics can emerge from multiple origins.
