As a female choreographer from a traditional Hakka family in Taiwan, HSIEH navigates multiple roles and identities. Her recent works explore Asian womanhood and cultural identity, while integrating the qualities of the female body into the company’s unique movement language.
Biography:
- Graduated from the Department of Dance at Taipei National University of the Arts.
- Current Artistic Director of CHUN DANCE, recognized as an Outstanding Performing Arts Group by the Taoyuan City Government from 2018 to 2026.
- Previously performed with Flux Waves Dance Theater, WCdance, Dance Forum Taipei, and Compagnie Käfig.
Selected Works & International Engagements:
- 2022: Produced CHUN DANCE’s Guest — Puzzle of Memories; created Close or Not? for Want to Dance Festival; invited to create SEASON for the 2021+ Taoyuan Land Art Festival.
- 2023: Choreographed CHUN DANCE’s Quand Le Corps S’exprime: The Body’s Narrative andproduced Coming Home; presented Connection at Want to Dance Festival and was subsequently selected for the festival’s 2024 International Exchange Program; invited to collaborate with the Lunping Hakka Cultural Festival and A-Ti-Mi-Si Chamber Ensemble on a site-specific Hakka dance performance; invited to present Summer Fantasy at the Taoyuan Children’s Arts Festival.
- 2024: Quand Le Corps S’exprime: The Body’s Narrative was selected for Festival Off Avignon in France; Connection, created in collaboration with choreographer Yang Jing-Ming, was invited by international curator Olé Khamchanla to perform at the FMK International Dance Festival in Laos.
- 2025: Choreographed and produced CHUN DANCE’s Whispers of the Late Blossom; Trace of Belief was selected for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Gothenburg Fringe Festival; Quand Le Corps S’exprime: The Body’s Narrative was invited to the Krossing Over Arts Festival in Vietnam.
