“What anchors our faith in an ever-changing world?”

Trace of Belief is a choreographic exploration of faith, identity, and cultural memory. Rooted in choreographer HSIEH Yi-Chun’s personal journey, the work draws upon the lasting impressions of her Hakka heritage: the cadence of her mother tongue, the resonant sounds of gongs and suona, and the instinctive gestures of prayer practiced in temples.

Through movement, these memories emerge not as stories retold, but as embodied traces carried within the body over time. The choreography reveals how faith and culture shape our instincts, perceptions, and sense of belonging.

Both intimate and universal, Trace of Belief unfolds as a living ritual. It is an invitation for audiences to reflect on the memories, traditions, and beliefs that ground us, sustain us, and give us the strength to move forward in life.

Following its 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut, Trace of Belief earned 42 stars from international media. Critics praised its profound spiritual depth and “hypnotic fluidity,” describing it as a meditative work that both calms the spirit and provokes deep reflection.
